The theme being about Discrimination
I think that one of the themes in To Kill A Mockingbird is discrimination because, a lot that happens in this book seems to be about judging one another like race especially. Also how Atticus, Scout, and Jem are judged because of Atticus helping Tom Robinson for his case. One another in this book are judged by their actions or how they look.
Quote 1- "They c'n go loose and rape up the countryside for all of 'em who run this county care," was one obscure observation we met head on from a skinny gentlemen when he passed us. (To Kill A Mocking Bird, 135).
Quote 2- "I wants to know why you bringin' white chillum to n***** church." (To Kill A Mocking Bird, 119).
I think this song 'Both Of Us,' fits with the theme because, in this song the lyrics say "And sometimes I wonder why we care so much about the way we look and the way we act, and the clothes we bought. How much that cost? Does it even really matter?" I think he is implying that why do we also care about others looking the way they do, why do we care so much about something not very important, we should be focusing on what is on the inside, instead of judging one another for race, etc. Also the lyrics say, "I can feel your pain, I can feel your struggle. You just wanna live, but everything so low. That you could drown in a puddle. That's why I gotta hold us up, yeah hold us up. For all the times no one ever spoke for us." It's pretty much saying no one every stood up for us, but they can feel the pain. Like Atticus is feeling how Tom kind of feels on trial. He thinks that he is an innocent man. Like once everyone knows that Mayella is beaten sexually, you think Tom wouldn't be convicted guilty. No one spoke up except Atticus.
