The theme, Rumors:
Quote 1- "As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent's leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities." (Lee, 11).
Quote 2- "It was melancholy little drama, woven bits from scraps of gossip and neighborhood legend: Mrs. Radley had been beautiful until she married Mr. Radley and lost all her money. She also lost most of her teeth, her hair, and her right forefinger (Dill's contribution. Boo bit it off one night when he couldn't find any cats and squirrels to eat.); she sat in the livingroom and cried most of the time, while Boo slowly whittled away all the furniture in the house." (Lee, 39).
I think the song Mean, goes with the theme, Rumors, because rumors about Boo Radley. Have they ever thought that those rumors could hurt him. The part where it mentions drinking reminds me of Bob Ewell, as if Mayella was finally getting free from Bob and becoming happy. Mayella isn't happy, her father hurt her. Now they're in the rumors that are true about abuse.
